For all my American mates, this is a national highway, note the lack of lunatic drivers, fences, billboards, or the lack of anything at all for that matter.
Oh, all right, technically I am speeding.
The digital image didn't come out as I wanted, but the bitumen road was a rich red in color.
80 miles out of Townsville is the town of Charters Towers. You're in cattle country now mate.
Here the unique "Queenslander" style of architecture. Elevated houses with big verandahs typifies the style.
Me ol' mate Shaun "Mary" Frerichs was the reason for the trip. He's one of the toughest rugby players I've ever played rugby with, as well as being an above average all round sportsman, he's a bloody good bloke as well.
Doesn't this photo look like I've been caught doing something wrong??? Well, I was having my first ice cold beer for the day, so it was a look of pure bliss.
How's this for a pub feed at lunchtime. You had to be pretty good on the fang to get through this rump steak, chips and rabbit food.
Oh, and the beer was only used to wash it all down!!!
